PEACE BEGINS WITH A SMILE – PEACE ACTIVISM IN BIH

On September 21, 2012, Peace Activist Organizations will commemorate International Day of Peace at Fra Grga Martić Square (in front of the Cathedral) under the auspices of an informal “Peacebuilding Network” supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) called “Peace begins with a smile.” By presenting their activities, peace activists will send a message of peace and invite all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world to peace, coexistence and understanding.

The event in Sarajevo will be organized between 11.00 and 13.00, with press releases scheduled at 12.00 after the arrival of the Extreme Sports Club (KES) cyclists from Vareš who will ride from Vareš to Sarajevo route and bring a symbolic “Oath of Peace” from the Royal city ​​of Bobovac to the event site in Sarajevo.

Other activities will include the distribution of a new issue of Peace News, peace leaflets, collection of smiles and messages of peace, peace games, facepainting, release of balloons and pigeons, etc. in which a large number of activists will participate.

Organizers of the event are: Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Episcopal Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Caritas BC BiH), Association for Democratic Initiatives (ADI), Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), CARE International, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), One World Foundation (OneWorldSee), CURE Foundation, Local Democracy Foundation (FLD), Creative Development Foundation (FKR), Catholic School Center – Secondary Medical School, Nansen Dialogue Center Sarajevo (NDC ), the NGO Altruista Svjetlo, the Association of Prisoners of BiH and the Heart Full of Smiles.
